Former World No1 Andy Murray has confirmed that he will miss the French Open in Paris to focus his preparations for the grass-court season. The 34 year old has been hampered by injury for the past couple of years and pulled out of the Miami Open last month due to a groin problem.

Murray has never won the clay court Grand Slam at Roland Garros so it is no real surprise that the two-time Wimbledon champion is prioritising the grass surface as he looks to return to elite tennis. The Queen’s Club Championships is the first major tournament of the grass court circuit and is due to begin on 14th June in West Kensington, London. This will give Murray the opportunity to play in front of his home fans once again and he was recently quoted as saying he ‘cannot wait’ to return to competing back in the UK. The Scot has won a record five titles at Queens but his attention will be firmly on ensuring he is in the best possible shape for the Wimbledon Championships at the end of June.
